Hawthorne Primary School Meet Peter The Pit Pony - 20 May 2019
Photos from Laura Simpson

The outdoor classroom
Jackie tells the story
The children play the parts in the story
They all get to meet Peter the Pit Pony
Everyone seemed to have fun with the story
After the story Jackie explains we can find out more on the trail round the park
Off they go - out into the park
The trail leads in a circuit from the Winding Engine House Compound
At each information post they scan the QR code ...
... and find out more about the mining equipment
Back in the Dynamo House they get crafting and make a flock of canaries
Everyone goes home with a feathery friend including Councillor Phil Rostance's daughter.

Tree Felling Beside the Adventure Playground - February 2019
Photos from Sue McDonald - NCC Community Liaison Officer

The sweet chestnut adjacent to the playground
The smaller branches have already been removed
See how close it is to the fence
Time for some serious chainsawing
The view from the top
Birds-eye view of the playground
All the tree now on the ground
Smaller timbers chopped into short lengths
Larger timbers stacked ready for sawing
The BWE mobile sawmill is set up on site
It makes short work of sawing the timber into planks
The planks and other timber will be used by BWE
