Japanese Garden Tidy Up - Monday 20 April 2015

It was a grand weather day for the volunteer work, with some good fun and good company! We cleared the rest of the ivy from the long flight of steps and it's now possible to appreciate the full sweep of the steps' design, as they open up down towards the fountain. A young toad was discovered hiding in a crevice of the steps. We put him/her carefully back into the undergrowth. Meanwhile we did a drastic cut back of some of the vegetation round the fountain. Jane got into her Tarzan act, swinging through the trees! Once we got a big bush cut down that blocked the view, we could see the path edge leading off towards main drive - it was a much wider path than we’d realised. We tackled some of the vegetation around the fountain and after cutting back and clearing accumulated earth and leaves were able to see the wide paved circular path that leads around the fountain, although we didn’t have time to get all the way round. Thanks to everyone who took part and of course to Gedling Borough ranger team - we got a lot done!
